Darden Physical Education teacher Greg Mercer was recently awarded the Martin's Supermarket One School at a Time Grant for his outstanding work in his Move It Zone in the Darden Gym.  "I love gym class!" is a frequently heard from Darden students and they are learning about the importance of exercise and fitness.  Fourth grader Ayanna Nicholson says "It's good for us so we can be in the right shape for middle school and high school and so that we can learn from it."  Mercer adds "Kids come in the Move It Zone and they move... they exercise really hard."  Principal John Kennedy believes that, even though it is not measured on standardized tests, learning about physical fitness is an important life lesson.  Mercer plans to use the $1000 from Martin's to update and add to the equipment he needs to build his program.  Darden thanks Martin's Supermarket and WNDU for recognizing us and providing these funds for our students.  You can view the story t this link:  http://www.wndu.com/video?vid=418269753
